In October 2011 Edward Thomasson moved into the SLG's Outset Artists' Flat as the recipient of the inaugural Nina Stewart Artist Residency. For six months he also benefits from a studio courtesy of SPACE and a programme of mentoring from SLG and SPACE staff, as well as invited curators and other experts, culminating in a solo exhibition in the SLG's first floor galleries opening in March 2012.

The open submission, six-month residency was open to artists graduating with an MA or MFA from a UK institution in 2011. The Nina Stewart Artist Residency includes the provision of private accommodation in the South London Gallery's Outset Artists' Flat and a studio in a new complex provided by SPACE.

The residency enables the production of a new body of work and is a rare opportunity for a recent graduate to exhibit within an internationally renowned institution.

Thomasson was selected by a panel of judges which included Margot Heller, Director of the South London Gallery, and Anna Harding, Director of SPACE.

The Nina Stewart Artist Residency with the South London Gallery and SPACE is funded by The Nina and Roger Stewart Charitable Trust, with additional support from Bloomberg.
