Making Play wins Clore Award for Museum Learning
The SLG is thrilled that its three-year education project Making Play has won the inaugural £10,000 Clore Award for Museum Learning.
This award recognises diverse, high-quality and high-impact learning initiatives, particularly for children and young people. The judges were so impressed by the outstanding quality of the finalists that they awarded double the prize money to the South London Gallery jointly with a consortium of the Pitt Rivers Museum and the Oxford University Museum of Natural History.
Making Play has been an important part of the growth of the SLG’s education work, enabling the gallery to develop a long-term programme involving local children and families in contemporary art. Funded by the Big Lottery's Playful Ideas fund, Making Play is inspired by the possibilities of bringing together children’s play and contemporary art practice.
The Clore Award for Museum Learning is a new award that recognises and celebrates quality, impact and innovation in using museums and galleries for learning activities and initiatives.
