The South London Gallery runs a rich and exciting programme of art events for children and families. Free drop-in workshops every Sunday afternoon and during school holidays are themed around current exhibitions and open to all. They provide engaging, fun and an informal space for families to relax together at the gallery.
The artist-led Sunday Spot drop-in workshops are organised by local parents as part of the SLG’s Family Advocates scheme. Funded by Arts Council England, the scheme explores innovative ways of working with local parents living on neighbouring estates to develop skills in arts programming for families.
The SLG also works with children and families living on Sceaux Gardens housing estate through weekly artist-led workshops in a former shop unit and at Charlie Chaplin Adventure Playground. Part of the SLG’s three year Lottery-funded project, Making Play: adventures in creative play through contemporary art, the workshops are run by artists undertaking one of a series of six bi-annual residencies.
